1- Transparent Plates (Invisalign)
Practices that can treat malalignment and crooked teeth without the use of braces are called brace-free orthodontic treatment. These applications are carefully determined by the orthodontist specifically for the needs and demands of the patients. Thus, patients can correct the irregularities in their teeth without using braces. Treatment of crooked teeth without braces is generally carried out with transparent aligners. These personalized plaques have a structure or placement that cannot be noticed from the outside. In addition, transparent aligners can be put on and removed by the patient whenever desired.
Wireless orthodontic treatment is performed with various advanced applications. The most preferred among these applications is transparent plate treatment, also known as Invisalign. Transparent plaques are colorless. Light can pass through them. In other words, when they get stuck in the teeth, it is very difficult to notice them from the outside.
Transparent aligner application begins with an examination of the patient’s mouth, jaw and teeth. Then, various measurements are made on the patient’s teeth and jaw. Based on these measurements, the doctor makes a detailed plan for the tooth position at the end of the treatment. After this planning, transparent plaques suitable for the patient are modeled and produced. It should be used all day, except for meals, for at least 20-22 hours a day.

2- Bracket and Wires
2.1- Metal Brackets

From the moment the braces are placed, force begins to be transmitted to the teeth. This may naturally cause some pain in the teeth. Everyone’s pain threshold is different. Therefore, most of the patients say that they do not experience any pain when the braces are inserted; Some patients state that they feel mild pain in the first few days. For this reason, it is beneficial for patients who will start treatment to be prepared for possible pain, even if only a little. Patients with pain during this period can easily overcome this process by using painkillers.
When the wires are inserted, small aphthous-like wounds may appear on the lips and cheeks where the wires and brackets come into contact. Again, these wounds heal within about 1 week when gargled with salt water.
There are some rules that patients receiving brace treatment must follow. You should be especially careful about eating and drinking. A human’s bite force is greater than we think. For this reason, when something hard is eaten, brackets and wires may break along with biting. Each break causes the treatment to take longer and things to get worse. Likewise, sticky foods and acidic drinks will damage both your teeth and braces. Food should be cut into small pieces and eaten carefully with the back teeth. Foods with seeds, such as olives and cherries, should be eaten after removing the seeds. Foods such as plums, almonds, nuts and popcorn chips should not be eaten during the treatment.
One of the most important things in braces treatments is regular tooth brushing and the use of an interdental brush. Food residues left on and between the brackets after meals can cause tooth decay in a very short time. If we want our teeth to look both smooth and healthy when the treatment is over, we should be careful about brushing our teeth and using an interdental brush after every meal.
Treatment Duration
The duration of orthodontic treatment may vary depending on the amount of crookedness of the teeth, the hardness and softness of the person’s bone structure, and the methods to be applied. Treatment duration may vary for each patient. In order not to prolong the treatment period, the brackets and wires should not break or break. Sometimes, the treatment period may be extended due to a bracket breaking 2-3 months before the end of the treatment.

In cases of upper jaw stenosis, a palatal screw appliance is used that is attached to the teeth with support from the teeth. When applied during the developmental period, it provides appropriate expansion of the upper jaw bone, while surgical support may be required at older ages.
In cases where the lower jaw is forward, the treatment method we call extra-oral face mask at the age of 8-9 is an appliance treatment that we frequently apply and whose effect we see very well, especially at this age. This method, which is applied for 6 months, enables early detection and correction of problems that can only be corrected with jaw surgery in the future.
